Vacationing in the Philippines Part 11 — Philippines (Native Island

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

So after scuba diving we ate at an island nearby.

So I don’t remember what this island is called or the name of the restaurant, but here the people on this island still live natively.

By natively, I mean, they build there houses out of banana tree leaves and things like that.

Hello there!

Getting some mini mangos. 5 pesos. (45 pesos = 1 us dollar. you do the math)

My camera is perfectly placed ;p

If you don’t know, my favorite fruits are mangos and pineapples. You can definitely make me happy with either one :)

A store.

Some kids

Me with the scuba instructor Martin. I told him we should do a jumping picture, instead, I splashed! :p

He didn’t believe me the 2nd time around.

A few kids trying to get some coconuts or mangos.

I don’t approve of this, but we got to watch a cock fight.

A random sandal I saw.

Got some sprite and shared with the kids

We went and dropped by the school.

And we passed out some snacks.

A boy looking into a classroom.

Inside the classroom. There’s a kid at the very right just knocked out.

Some more kids

And that’s it for the photos from my Philippines trip! Aren’t you happy? Now it’s back to the normal stuff, like events and portraits! Sike! I still need to blog about my China trip, but that trip was only a weekend trip :)

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 10 — Mactan (Scuba Diving)

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

I went scuba diving for the first time! I got lessons and then go to go into the ocean. Let me just say, it’s sooo much fun! Unfortunately I went with someone who was complaining all the time, so it took out the fun. Yes, people that complain are no fun and I should definitely stop complaining all the time too. But for me, I just do it to make people mad ;p

So I learned the basics and techniques in the pools first.

Learning.

And then we’re off!

And into the water I go.

I wish I had underwater housing for my camera, but those things cost just as much as my camera. One day, I will get one :)

Be advised that I did not take the photos that have me in it, or the ones that are in the water :)

The next day, I paid for an option that took us to another island and got to do some more diving! :)

Hello chinky eyes!

If you’ve never been scuba diving before, I would definitely recommend it. Fish kkind of give me the heebs, but it was fun looking at all the pretty fish in it’s natural habitat.

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 9 — Cebu/Mactan (Random things, Punta, Tops)

Monday, March 28th, 2011

So this next part of the trip I went to Cebu/Mactan. It’s not as pretty as Boracay. I kind of wish I went to Boracay last :p

So here are some random things that I did.

Some random tribal thing.

At sunset.

I went to dinner at a restaurant (I think it was called Punta) and during dinner there were performers doing traditional dances.

Outside, there were kids selling necklaces and bracelets.

I also went to an area called Tops. It’s where you get to see an aerial view of Cebu. I went at night, so all you can see are the lights of Cebu.

Scuba Instructor aka tour guide Martin.

The moon was looking pretty awesome. There was a ring around it. It was a few nights before Supermoon.

A hallway at Tops.

I promise I’m almost done with posting photos from my Philippines trip. I only have 2 more posts planned :)

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 8 — Boracay (Random things I did)

Monday, March 28th, 2011

My last full day in Boracay, I was supposed to go to Ariel’s Point. I put down my deposit for the trip and everything, but then as I got to the meeting point in the morning, the trip was off due to the strong winds. I was soo bummed, because I was really looking forward to it.

So instead, I decided to go ATV-ing.

As you can tell, I wasn’t really dressed appropriately to ride an ATV. And I sucked at it too.

While on the ATV tour, I also got to go to some bird sanctuary area.

A bird cage.

They didn’t just have birds. They also had bats.

And you could touch them.

There were also monkeys.

And butterflies.

And there was also a nice view.

Also, in the tour, there was another view area.

So I got 2 massages while in Boracay. One I got on the beach. I got an ‘hour’ massage. Which was more like 40 mins.

I wouldn’t suggest an outside massage. It’s not really that great, because you can just feel the sand as you’re getting massaged.

So the next day, I got a 2 hour stone massage.

I kept seeing Buko juice for sale. I didn’t want to try it because I didn’t know what it was.

It wasn’t until the last day in the Philippines that I found out Buko juice was coconut juice. I was really sad. For some reason, I didn’t think it was coconut so I didn’t get it :(

And this is the Catlican airport. (Remember my previous post, from the airport yu have to ride a tricycle to the boats, and to the boats you get to Boracay. So the airport is on an island called Catlican).

At least with all the hassles, it was a nice view.

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 7 — Boracay (Puka Beach)

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

So one day, instead of taking the free shuttle to White Beach, I decided to pay a little bit extra and head over to Puka Beach. Can you guess why it’s named Puka beach?? Because of all the puka shells!

This beach is a little bit less ventured. Which was good for me, because I just got to turn onthe speakers to my ipod and just lay out in the sun. There were only a handful of people on the beach.

I tried to be creative and take a photo of my foot prints. I’ve learned I have ugly footprints, and apparently, I can’t walk in a straight line.

And last but not least, vendors at the entrance of the beach.

I would definitely suggest going to Puka beach if you’re in Boracay and you want to get away from all the people. There were only things to purchase at the entrance of the beach, and the further you went down the beach, the less people there were (and there were hardy any people to begin with).

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 6 — Boracay (White Beach)

Friday, March 25th, 2011

So White Beach is a popular beach to go to. A lot of hotels shuttle their guests to and from this beach.

So they drop you off at a point called D-mall where there’s a convenience store and some shops along the way to the beach.

Heres a dad and his daughter waiting for something at the pick up area.

So the first day I was in Boracay, I went to the beach around sunset, just to get a feel for what I was going to do the next day.

The beach during the day.

The beach was so awesome. It was a white sand beach, (the name gives it away) and the sand just felt sooo nice to walk on.

This was called Willy’s point. An attraction on tripadvisor.com

The great thing about this beach is that there are no vendors! All the vendors are on the sidewalk and don’t come onto the sand because they aren’t allowed. So it’s super peaceful.

You can pay so many pesos to lay out on chairs, but at the particular place I went to, all you had to do was order a drink and you could lay in the chairs for free.

So I don’t mind if I do.

This photo, I actually took my camera into the water with me. I was trying very hard to not get it wet since I don’t have underwater gear. The things I do for you! :)

I thought this was really cute. It was a family, and the grandma was in a bikini wearing floaties!

So I kept seeing sand scultpures.

I found out that the local island kids do them. I took a picture of the one above and this kid said to me- you take picture, give me tip. I looked at him and was like no way! Good job, but I’m not giving you a tip for taking a picture. Had you made it for me, then sure. But not to just take a picture. (At this point I was really fed up with everyone wanting tips. Remember my whole getting onto the island experience)

People watching the sunset.

The sun goes down real fast!

A guy skimboarding

I would definitely reccomend going to Boracay if you ever go to the Philippines. IT was so peaceful and relaxing. I didn’t partake in any of the partying because I just wanted to rest and enjoy the beaches :)

But, I did have a beer or cocktail everyday :)

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 5 — Boracay (Hotel Soffia)

Friday, March 25th, 2011

So let me just tell you when I got to Boracay I just was not impressed. Actually, I was pretty annoyed. So you don’t actually land in Boracay, you land in Catlican. From there you take a tricycle to the terminal, and then from the terminal you pay fees (environmental fees, and terminal fees).  Then from the terminal you have to take a boat to Boracay.

The porters and people that work at the airport are pretty pushy and just grab your bags for you and then expect a tip. So if you go, I suggest JUST SAY NO! You have to be aggressive with it. I learned the hard way. They will try to help you get your bags, then put your bags in the tricycle, from the tricycle try to help you to the terminal. from the terminal to the boat. from the boat to the island. So thats 5 different people trying to get you to tip them. On my way off the island, I learned to just hang onto my bag and just tell everyone no and ignore them.

So here’s the boat that I went on from the terminal to the island.

Thankfully after getting off the boat we didn’t have to deal with anymore hassles, the hotel picked us up! The hotel definitely redeemed the island. :)

I stayed at Hotel Soffia.

This is the entrance of the hotel. It was very small and quaint.

The hotel greeted us with a pucca shell necklace and lemon grass tea. After settling in I went to the pool, and of course had to have a beer!

Pool View.

The hotel also served a complimentary breakfast every morning. And it wasn’t a buffet either!

You got your choice of tea or coffee or hot chocolate, plus a juice, and a choice of american style, continental style, or a filipino style breakfast.

The hotel was pretty nice. I would say the only negative about it was that the walls were a bit thin, and in the mornings I got woken up by the neighboring roosters.

They had a free shuttle service to the beach going every hour. It was only a 5-10 min drive.

So that’s that for this post. The next posts will be about the amazing different beaches!

p.s. I’m back in the states!

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 4 — Bamboo Organ Church, Jeepney Factory, Tagatay/Taal Volcano Tour, People’s Park in the SkyPhilippines

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Ok so I am currently at Incheon Aitport (Korea) waiting for my flight back to the states!

So I have some time to kill, so I decided to update my blog! Lucky you!

On this particulat day, I did another tour with my hotel, which took me to a Bamboo Organ Church, a Jeepney Factory, Tagatay to see a view of the Taal Volcano, and People’s Park in the Sky to see a view of the island.

So here’s the first part- The Bamboo Organ Church

There was a little museum.

You can see my shadow.

Now the Jeepney Factory. Jeepneys are the Philippines ways of public transportation. You can get a jeepney according to your needs. You pick how many people you want it to fit and the colors.

Now Tagatay to see an aerial view of the Taal Volcano.

It was kind of a hazy day so sorry for the cloudyness.

You can even go ziplining (I didn’t do it because I wanted to go ziplining in a prettier location :/ )

People’s Park in the Sky.

Vendors at the start of People’s Park in the Sky. I really wnated to buy a pineapple, but I didn’t have a knife!

On the way back to the hotel, we saw a bunch of pineapple farms!

I didn’t realize that pineapples came from the ground. I guess I didn’t really think about how they grew. It makes sense that they don’t come from a tree.

That’s it for Manila. Next to come is Boracay!!! If you like the ocean, Boracay is definitely the place to go!!

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 3 — Laguna, Philippines (Hidden Valley Springs)

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

So I was getting really bored in Manila. It was just dirty and crowded, so with the hotel that I was staying at I booked a tour.

It was nice because it was just me and my travelling partner. The driver worked for the hotel, so the tour wasn’t outsourced to a 3rd party.

So I went to Hidden Valley Springs. It was about an hour outside of Manila.

Here, I got to go swimming and walk a trail to see a waterfall.

I loved it here because it was just soo luscious and green.

So there were 3 pools, and 1 waterfall off a beaten track. (there were also some smaller waterfalls with the pools)

One of the bigger pools with a bigger waterfall.

A bench.

Stairs leading to the cabanas.

One of the smaller pools with a tiny little waterfall.

Water pouring out.

Ok, so I guess I don’t really have to caption every photo. So I’ll just caption at the important ones :)

Finally made it to the big waterfall. But this was as close as I could get to it. Just getting that far was a little bit difficult. The rocks were all mossy and wet and slippery.

So this is the big pool that you saw at the beginning with the waterfall. There were 3 separate infinity pools that flowed into each other. :)

There were also some monkeys in a cage by the front desk.

Good bye Laguna. You were much prettier than Manila. :)

Vacationing in the Philippines Part 2 — Manila, Philippines (Robinson Mall)

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Sorry that this post took so long. My website is blocked in China so I couldn’t update while I was there!

So here are some more photos from my Philippines trip.

So this day, I went to the mall. Robinsons mall and there was something crazzzzzy going on! There were crowds of people, so of course I had to shove my way and see what all the commotion was about.

It was kind of like San Diego’s comicon, but not!

I was wondering why I was walking around the mall and seeing people dressed up. I thought it was really weird just seeing a handful of people wearing costumes until I saw these crowds of people.

And then I took a few random pictures of people in costume. There were just waaay too many people for me to whip out my camera and take a good shot.  So these arent good shots ;p

I promise to update really soon. Tomorrow is my last full day in Korea. Once I get back to the states, all I’ll have is time :)

But I will try to update at least one more time before I leave :) (But I’ve decided not to take my camera out tomorrow because I have a lot of last minute errands I need to run. So the next post will be from the Philippines)

xoxo
